Setting Up Semester Classes with Custom Dates
This guide allows high schools to assign specific dates to a class. This would be used if a high school runs off semester schedule but the class is only taught a specific time period such as half of the semester. The class will appear as a semester grade on the report card and the transcripts.
Step 1: Turn on Custom Dates for the Term
- Go to Scheduling → Terms.
- Open the relevant term (e.g., the semester term the quarter class falls under) and click Edit.
- Find the new checkbox: "Allow Classes to be Set to Custom Dates."
- Enable it, then save.

What this does:
- Lets you assign specific start/end dates to an individual class within that term.
- Attendance will only be available to take during that class's custom date range.
- Assignments can only be dated (and added) within that same custom date range.
- Grading stays on the semester schedule — even though the class only runs for part of the term (e.g., a quarter),. The grades will appear as semester in he report card and transcript. This matches how high school classes are typically reported on transcripts.
Step 2: Set Custom Dates on the Class
- Go to Classes.
- If the class already exists: open it and click Edit. If it doesn't exist yet: create the class as you normally would.
- Scroll down to the Available Times / Available Dates section.
- Set the date range for when this class should be active — for example, just the first half of the semester for a quarter-length class.
- Save the class.

Result
- The class now only accepts attendance and assignment due dates within its custom window.
- Grades are still submitted on the normal semester schedule.
- No separate quarter grading process is needed.
