SBG: Entering Evidence & New Student Page

Overview

This guide explains how to Add Evidence AE-Connect.   It includes a video guide at the bottom

Getting started

Go to your class list and select the class. You will see these tabs:

•      Overview

•      Students – each student’s assessments and current standing

•      Mastery – your grade book

•      Evidence – your assignments

•      Term Grade

Three ways to add evidence

1.     Click the plus (+) to add evidence for all students.

2.     Click the learning goal itself.

3.     Click the plus under the evidence for an individual student. Hovering shows “individual student assessment.”

Formative vs. summative

•      Formative is practice and does not count toward the overall calculation.

•      Summative counts toward the overall calculation.

Set this on every piece of evidence.

Method 1: Goals Progress (learning-goal grading)

Adding Evidence for all students

1.     Select the topic (e.g., ATOS 1). The new evidence screen opens with the name, date, formative/summative setting, and the standards assessed (e.g., ATOS 1, ATOS 2, and the 4.0).

2.     Select or deselect students to add or hide them for this goal.

3.     To assess two learning goals together, select both; they appear as side-by-side columns.

4.     The left plus section is for targeting only. You can’t enter an assessment there. You can target one student and copy the goal to all.

5.     Assess everyone at once: In the right-side menu, select the first 2.0 (Proficient), then click the arrow to select all the 2.0s. The count shows how many are assessed (e.g., 6 of 7). The remaining one is the 3.0, which you haven’t assessed.

6.     Use Copy to all students to copy one student’s assessment to everyone.

7.     Assess student by student: Click each student’s name and mark what they earned. For example, Jasper gets one result, Carrie another, and Graham gets Developing.

8.     Name the evidence and Save. It now appears under Evidence.

Evidence for or one student

  1.  Click the plus under the evidence to evaluate for that student.
  2. Choose to assess one or more content groups to provide evidence for.
  3. Evaluate each individual goal
    1. Or use the arrow to quick fill all in the section (eg. 2.0 or 3.0 & 2.0)

3.     Name it, set formative or summative, and assess. Marking a 3.0 as Proficient also marks the 2.0, giving a 3.0 for the topic.

4.     Save. The student’s record updates.

5.     To assess other students on the same evidence later, open the evidence and add them.

Scoring a 4.0

Create a 4.0 and assess it. Developing = 3.5, Proficient = 4.0.

Method 2: Group Grading

Open it with the topic (e.g., CAM 1) or the plus. It looks like Goals Progress.

•      Set formative/summative, choose one or both goals, and target students.

    • Select first student to activate left menu

•      Use the left-side menu (scale 0.0 to 3.0)

–      Assess with a 2 and all the 2.0s are checked automatically.

–      Assess with a 3.0 and all the 3.0s and 2.0s are checked.

–      Anything below 2 selects nothing automatically; you choose manually.

•      Use Copy to all to apply it to every student, or click items yourself and the total builds up.

•      Individual student: Click the plus. Unlike Goals Progress, you give one topic score and the matching items auto-select (2 selects the 2.0s; 3 selects the 3.0s and 2.0s; below that, choose manually).

•      Always Save as formative or summative.

Method 3: Topic Grading

Topic grading has no learning goals attached. You grade the whole topic with a 0 to 3 or a 4, and that becomes the student’s grade. Give everyone a 3, save, and everyone has a 3 for that topic.

Student report area

The Students tab shows each student’s current standing, evidence assessed, and latest assessments. Click a student (e.g., Jasper) to see all their scores, open any item for details, and print the report to give to students.

Hiding evidence you aren’t using

In Mastery, hide evidence you won’t assess this quarter:

1.     Click the gear icon.

2.     Check the items to hide.

Hidden items disappear from your view, the Students view, and the student and parent portals. The term in Student tab is based on what’s visible, or you can choose All to include in the report. All is what is assessed for all quarters.
